| On the last day of ANCOLC, class was finished before eleven and, except for one minimal cleaning detail, we had nothing to do the rest of the day. We had unnecessary formations at 1600, 1700, and 2400, and our bus left for OKC at about 0145. As the bus turned onto the interstate and Fort Sill disappeared behind me, I felt as if a heavy weight was leaving my shoulders. We arrived at the airport at about 0330. The first of my three flights was scheduled to leave at 0925. I arrived at the Tweed New Haven Airport around 1730 and called Pfc Washington, who came to pick me up. Only after we arrived at the Reserve Center did I learn that he had wasn't working at the recruiting office anymore due to state financial difficulties. Not only did he pick me up and ensure that I could get home (by giving my car a jump--it had been unused for almost 2 1/2 months), which were not his responsibility, but he also brought me two slices of Pepe's pizza, which he claimed to be the best pizza he'd ever had. We spoke at length as my battery recharged. All's well that ends well, I guess. I'm going to the recruiting office on Monday with my paperwork. Hopefully they'll be able to tell me exactly where I'm headed next. |
